An account of the role played by Charleston, South Carolina in Revolutionary France's attempts, against all odds, to retain her West Indian possessions. The chief vehicle of this effort was the privateer, and Charleston was pretty much the only port in the western Atlantic from which they could operate.

The author was the Curator of Marine Transportation at the National Museum of History and Technology.
