London : Printed by T.N. for Hen ry Mortlock at the Phoenix in St. Paul's Churchyard, 1681. The Second Edition, Corrected. Pp. (2), i-xciv, [7], (1), [1]-449, (1). Small 4to, full brown calf with decorative tooled corners, narrow borders, raised bands with gilt lettering and trim to spine. Consisting of three parts: Part I: An Historical Account of the Rise and Progress of Separation; Part II: Of the Nature of the Present Separation; Part II: Of the Please for the Present Separation. These follow a rather lengthy preface by the author. Edward Stillingfleet (1635-1699), the English prelate and author, was consecrated in 1689 as Bishop of Worcester. He was well known for his many works concerning the Protestant Church. This particular volume was written when the author was the Dean of St. Paul's. Front hinge cracked, with calf very lightly worn, two small chips to head of spine, small bookplate to front paste-down, else aremarkably attractive copy. 500.00
