Barbara Grantmyre, née Lucas (b. 1903, Bolton, Lancashire, England - d. 1977) was living in Elmsdale, Nova Scotia at the time of publication.
"According to reviewers Barbara Grantmyre is 'a Canadian author with characters as salty as their own sea air' and 'she has a knack of catching the tangy characters and salty dialogue of her own province.' These qualities are evident in the title story of this collection and the others about the Mullet family, 'The Only Woman Who Ever Puzzled Me' is also set in a fishing village on the Nova Scotia coast but Mrs. Grantmyre does not confine herself to a stereotyped background and the rest of the tales happen in a variety of places . . . a carnival, a country village, a small town, a rural farm while the emotional range is equally varied from the tender 'Walk Home' to the grim 'Papa's Girl.'" - from the jacket.
