Ellen Bradford Stebbins (b. May 24, 1851, Pembroke, Plymouth County, Massachusetts - d. August 28, 1950, Boston), sometime of Watertown.
"Asked in 1936 for reminiscences of my sea-life to be read to the Duxbury Rural and Historical Society, I offered instead to make extracts from the unpublished manuscript of my father's [John Bradford, b. November 27,1823, Duxbury, Plymouth County, Massachusetts - d. May 1, 1893, Duxbury, Plymouth County, Massachusetts] account of his Voyages, 1839 - 1874. These, in four installments, were read at the meetings of the Society in 1937. The first one was printed in the special Duxbury Tercentenary Supplement, July 1, 1937, of the "Old Colony Memorial" of Plymouth.
In response to a renewed request, the following pages were written in 1938. As supplementary to my father's, they contain no unnecessary repetition, while naturally stressing the ties that bound us both to Duxbury. For printing serially in the "Old Colony Memorial," Part I was abridged and slightly modified after being read before the Society. Now, in their present form, they are only a Iong letter to distant friends. E.B.S. West Roxbury, March, 1939." - the Foreword.
