Walter Prenties was an Ensign of the 84th Regiment of Foot, carryingdispatches from Quebec to New York during the U.S. Revolutionary War when his ship was wrecked on the west coast of Cape Breton island in November of1780. His narrative recounts the wreck, the survivors' desperate initial e fforts, their open-boat voyage in search of rescue, and the care they received from the local native population near present-day St. Anne's. Prenties ultimately did deliver his dispatches, more than a year after leaving Quebec. Vg. 10.00
