After an overland journey to India he settled in Europe, wherehe lived in a cottage advertised as "perfect for misanthropes" on the isla nd of Elba; wrote lyrics for a German rock group; and passing himself off as French, sold mediocre drawings to American tourists in Paris. On returning to the United States, he lived at Lama Foundation in New Mexico, serving as its co-ordinator. He later became a student of Chogyam Trungpa, Rinpoche.
