Sir Malcolm Stanley Bradbury CBE (b. September 7, 193 2, Sheffield – d. November 27, 2000, Norwich) was an English author and academic. "Professor Treece liked to think of himself as a liberal humanist. It was his desire to implant in his pupils at the provincial university where he taught English a sense of civilised values. But he found it tough going. For one thing, he was beginning to feel old at forty; for another so many of the students looked on the university simply as a means of equipping themselves for some humdrum job in the outside world. There were exceptions of course, and above all there was the new student, the gangling, ludicrous, pathetic Louis Bates. Louis was, Treece thought, almost certainly as mad as a hatter and must be kept in his place. But so, people had said, was Shelley. Treece could see himself accused by posterity of stifling a nascent genius." (Abstract). Remains of Boots sticker to front cover, remains of sticker to rear pastedown, some wear to spine and edges, else very good. . 40.00
